Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW)

Background

An Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) has been prepared for the 8100 Tower and Hotel development proposed by United Properties and the North Central Group at 5501 and 5601 American Boulevard West (formerly Jostens offices). The proposed development will include a 10-story, 257 room hotel, a 10-story, 255,000 gross square foot office building, and a six-level 943-car parking structure that will be used by both the office and hotel.

On May 18, 2009 the City Council authorized submittal of the draft EAW to the Environmental Quality Board (EQB) for publication in the June 1, 2009 EQB Monitor. The draft EAW document is available for review at the Planning Division offices at Bloomington Civic Plaza , 1800 W. Old Shakopee Road . It is also available for review on the City's website: www.ci.bloomington.mn.us (type in keyword "environmental review") and at the Penn Lake (8800 Penn Ave. S.) and Oxboro (8801 Portland Ave. S.) branches of the Hennepin County Library.

NOTE: The EAW review is required by State law because the project includes more than 300,000 square feet of new commercial development. The EAW review process is related to, but separate from the City's formal review of the United Properties/North Central Group development application, which will be reviewed by the Bloomington Planning Commission on June 18, 2009 and will be reviewed by the City Council at the conclusion of the EAW review process.
