Summer Blockbusters!

Blues and BBQ 2011

Big Walter Smith Big Walter Smith

Thursday, July 28, 2011
7 - 9:30 p.m.
Normandale Lake Bandshell

This is the true Bloomington Neighborhood bar-b-que.

With one of the smoothest voices in the Twin Cities Big Walter applause roars as Big Walter takes his place on the stage.

With tunes like Sweet Home Chicago and The Way You Do the Things You Do Big Walter Smith headlines Bloomington's Blues and BBQ Blockbuster again this year.

As Big Walter and the Groove Merchants power through the music, the only one on the hillside standing bigger is Wilbur the two-story tall Famous Dave's mascot.

Skip dinner and eat on the hillside with Rich & Sassy BBQ available for purchase from Amy and the crew at the Bloomington Famous Dave's.

  • Trent Romens (7 p.m.) – Following in the footsteps of some great blues pioneers before him, young guitar-slinger Trent Romens is also stepping off their beaten path to blaze his own trail. With an electrifying stage presence and a deeply personal guitar-playing style, the breakout newcomer is winning over an impressive string of audiences. His natural stage presence is spellbinding and his music has the ability to absorb the audience; they see and hear nothing but Trent and his guitar.
  • Big Walter Smith and the Groove Merchants external link (8:15 p.m.)– Smith celebrates life after achieving 55 years as a lead vocalist and band leader in the music business. Blues, R&B, soul, rock, country and reggae is what he sings about these days. Smith is Minnesota's most honored and recognized bluesman. In Minneapolis, the legendary "Big Man of the Blues" has been a fixture in the Midwest's blues scene since 1970. His 300 pound presence and velveteen voice have graced nearly every blues and R&B stage in the Midwest, as well as the finest concert halls, casinos and festivals.

No admission will be charged.
