Healthy Eating and Learning through Play

HELP training and assistance program for childcare centers and preschools

The HELP program is a year-long project to assist Bloomington, Edina and Richfield facilities adopt policies and best practices for healthy eating and activity.

Eating healthy and keeping active is key to a young child's growth and development. Because many children spend time in childcare/preschool settings, the routines and practices of these environments are critical to the development of healthy behaviors. Creating a healthy environment requires time and commitment, but Bloomington Public Health can HELP.

Here's what workshop attendees had to say:

"Parents tell me their kids eat better at home since we've started the LANA program."
Bloomington child care provider

“What a wealth of great, workable applications for preschool! I have already used two of the ideas from the manual, tied them into our literacy, and the kids have loved it!”
Bloomington preschool teacher

“After using LANA this year, there was a 63% increase in the number of children that would eat most anything served at snack time. Parents were thrilled!”
Richfield preschool teacher

"Children have responded well to the new snack ideas, and of course they love the physical activity. Thank you for enabling this healthy change."
