Bloomington Police ChiefsMore than fifty years of leadership![]() Recently Retired Police Chief John LauxJohn Laux, former Minneapolis Police Chief, began his duties as Bloomington Police Chief in March 2003 and remained until his retirement in late 2008. Laux served 27 years with the Minneapolis Police Department, including six years as chief from 1989 through 1994. He was executive director of the Minnesota Peace Officer Standards and Training Board from 1995 to 1998. Laux describes leading Bloomington's Police force as his "dream job." "I never thought I would have the opportunity to be police chief in the community where I have spent most of my adult life," said Laux. " I have a long-standing admiration for Bloomington's well-managed and well-equipped Police Department and will build from a good legacy." A Bloomington resident of 40 years, Laux has been actively engaged in the community. He served as president of the Bloomington Citizens Crime Prevention Association and assisted with plans for the City's new police headquarters that opened in May 2003. "Our community is aging and we need to continue to provide a safe, friendly environment for Bloomington residents," Laux said. "It is also important to stay on top of changing technology trends that can enhance service."
