National Night Out

The neighborhood kids get together with McGruff, the crime-fighting dog, and a Bloomington Explorer at an annual NNO party.

The 26th annual National Night Out take place on Tuesday, August 4, 2009.

We cordially invite you and your neighborhood to be a part of the National Night Out program!

Last year's National Night Out crime, drug and violence prevention program was the most successful ever for the Bloomington Police Department. More than 300 police officers, firefighters and paramedics visited the 365 neighborhood parties that registered in 2008.

The Bloomington Crime Prevention Association external link raised $7,000 for the BPD to help offset expenses from the event.

National Night Out is designed to:

  • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
  • Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
  • Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Participate in Bloomington's NNO program!

To take part, register your gathering with our Police Department. You'll receive invitations and other support, and you'll be able to request a visit from police officers, firefighters, paramedics McGruff, Councilmembers, or the Mayor.

Registration is a snap. Just fill out the online NNO registration form in our Ask The City system (link below) and hit "Submit."

Please register with the City of Bloomington even if you've signed up on the national Web site. Information from the national site is not shared with us so we won't be able to offer you support if you sign up only there.
