Xcel Energy now trimming near power lines

Work in Bloomington to take place this summer and fall

One of Xcel Energy's line clearing contractors, Wrights Tree Service, will be doing main and feeder power line tree trimming in the following area in Bloomington:

The high line corridor from American Blvd. to the Minnesota River Bluffs north to south and Park Ave. to Columbus Ave. west to east.

Tree trimming and, where needed, tree removals, improve service and help Xcel Energy provide uninterrupted power to its customers.

In an effort to provide this uninterrupted service, electrical utilities are now taking a much more aggressive approach to line clearing and trimming. This tends to result in more extensive trimming and, in some cases, total removal of trees. The approach will also help to control the ongoing and ever-increasing cost of maintaining these utility power lines.

Although we may wish for a less aggressive approach to this trimming, the alternative is potentially more frequent interruptions in our electrical services. The City's Maintenance Division is working with, and will continue to work with, Xcel’s contractors on this trimming work and will update this page with new information if other areas are targeted for line trimming.
