Thank you for your interest in a summer position within Bloomington Parks and Recreation! This year, there are only two job applications on our Job Opportunities page:

You can use each of these applications to apply for multiple positions – when you fill out the application, just check the boxes next to all the jobs you'd like to apply for. To apply for positions on both of the below lists, you'll have to complete both applications and check the appropriate boxes on each.

Aquatic applicants...

  • All aquatic applicants will be notified whether they will progress to the interview process by March 9, 2012. If selected, new and returning applicants will participate in individual interviews.

Youth and family applicants...

  • New applicants, if selected for an interview, will participate in a group interview on March 10 or March 17. Some positions will require applicants to participate in an individual oral interview. In these cases, applicants will not participate in a group interview.
  • Returning applicants, if selected for an interview, will participant in a phone interview or may be asked to participate in the group interview.
  • All applicants will be notified whether they will progress to the interview stage by February 24, 2012. If selected, you'll receive further directions and information about what to expect in the process.

How do I apply?

New applicants

Bloomington Parks and Recreation's online application process allows you to save your application information so that you can apply for jobs without re-entering the same information.

As you complete the online application and supplemental questionnaire for a seasonal position, be sure to emphasize the skills and experience that prepare you for the job. Keep a copy of your completed application for your records. You must submit your application materials no later than 4:30 p.m. on the closing date.

To apply for an opening, complete the online application by clicking "Apply to this position" at the bottom of the job announcement and then clicking "New users."

Returning applicants

The City of Bloomington's online system allows you to update your application and apply for jobs without re-entering application information.

To update Part 1 and Part 2 of your application, click "Returning Applicant" and login with your user ID and password. After updating each part of the application, you will be taken to a screen that tells you your information has been updated and/or completed.

Online application description

  • Part 1: Registration – This part includes general information about you as an applicant, password entry and job notification preferences. After registering, you will be given a user ID and password to use for updating application information and applying for additional jobs. Be sure to make note of your user ID and password.
  • Part 2: Applicant Profile – This section contains your employment background and qualifications that will be used to determine how well you match the job requirements. It is important that your application shows all the relevant education and experience you possess. Applications may be rejected if incomplete. It is beneficial to review and update your answers to the core questions for every opening to which you apply.
  • Part 3: Job-Specific Questions – Most online job announcements require you to answer questions related specifically to the position. If the job does not require job-specific questions, the system will take you directly to Part 4: Application Confirmation.
  • Part 4: Application Confirmation – When you have successfully completed the online application, you will be taken to a screen which reads, "Your application has been submitted."This confirms that your application has been submitted to the application database. After it is submitted, your application will be reviewed and you will be contacted if you are selected to move forward in the hiring process.

Supplemental questionnaire tips

Responses to the supplemental questionnaire, if required, are part of the application screening process.

  • Be specific when responding to questions.
  • Do not combine answers or use "see above."
